Skeleton-based action recognition through fusion of spatial-temporal and motion information

Abstract

Aiming at the problem of insufficient utilization of spatio-temporal dependent features and motion information in existing skeletal behavior recognition methods, we propose an improved model that combines motion features and spatio-temporal attention based on PoseConv3D. Firstly, we use the limb heat map composed of limbs, head, and trunk as input to actively enhance the spatial correlation of adjacent key points. Secondly, we enhance the use of key spatio-temporal features in the backbone network by introducing spatio-temporal, channel, and motion excitation modules. Finally, we replace the cross-entropy loss function with the label smoothing loss function to improve the model's generalization ability. The model achieves recognition accuracies of 94.4% (X-Sub) and 97.5% (X-View) on the NTU RGB+D dataset, and 90.5% (X-Sub) and 91.4% (X-Set) on the NTU RGB+D 120 dataset. Experiments prove that combining motion features and spatio-temporal attention with skeletal heat maps as input effectively improves the accuracy of behavior recognition.
