Dynamic symmetric searchable encryption scheme with multilevel security objective

Abstract

Searchable encryption encrypts data files before storing them in the cloud and enables retrieval directly over the ciphertext. Dynamic searchable encryption facilitates dynamic updates to cloud-stored files. Existing dynamic searchable encryption schemes primarily focus on addressing forward and backward security, but they typically support only single-user searches and fail to simultaneously protect search and access patterns. In response to these limitations, this paper proposes a dynamic symmetric searchable encryption scheme, TS-MDSSE, based on oblivious key-value store (OKVS) technology. The scheme achieves forward security while hiding both search and access patterns, meeting three security goals. Building on this, we enhance the update algorithm by employing random value substitution, achieving backward security and introducing FS-MDSSE, which meets four security goals. Our security analysis and experiments demonstrate that the proposed schemes fulfill multi-level security requirements, support multi-user queries, and complete a single search in only 0.022 milliseconds.
