Abstract

Semantic Communication (SemCom) is an emerging technology that integrates intelligence and communication. It is expected to break through the bandwidth bottleneck of traditional communication and become a new communication paradigm for the 6th Generation Mobile Communication System (6G) . Currently, the application of semantic communication technology in edge computing scenarios has achieved some preliminary research results, but there is still a lack of systematic analysis and summary. To promote the further development of the semantic communication field, this article elaborates in detail on the representative research achievements of semantic communication in specific computing task scenarios in the past five years from the perspectives of the Internet of Things (IoT) task scenarios and generalized edge scenarios. Moreover, the bottleneck in the development of semantic communication technology lies in the high demand for computing power. The Computing Power Network (CPN) -driven semantic communication has become an ideal solution to this bottleneck. The article further introduces the research status of the computing power network, makes a comparative analysis of the characteristics of edge computing and computing power network, deeply analyzes the potential of the computing power network in promoting the development of semantic communication technology, and finally looks forward to the future research prospects of the computing power network and semantic communication.
