Design of heterogeneous traffic shaper for industrial 5G-TSN converged network

Abstract

To satisfy the end-to-end deterministic transmission requirements and differentiated QoS guarantee requirements for multi-type industrial tasks in smart factories, this paper employed 5G and time-sensitive network(TSN) to establish an end-to-end networking architecture of industrial 5G-TSN, and proposed a heterogeneous traffic shaper(HTS) that supported mixed data flow shaping of control tasks, audio/video tasks, and sensing tasks. For the deterministic delay requirements of periodic control tasks, HTS divided the flow queues separately, allocated exclusive time slots, and used the first-in-first-out rule for shaping. For the high bandwidth and high-concurrent access requirements of non-periodic audio/video tasks and sensing tasks, HTS established a shared flow queue, and used the credit rule for shaping. Meanwhile, HTS used the token bucket mechanism to shape the remaining non-periodic perception tasks. The OMNeT++ simulation results show that HTS can strictly meet the deterministic transmission requirements of key control tasks, while providing flexible scheduling for the coexistence transmission of audio/video and sensing tasks, reducing the maximum end-to-end delay of non-coexistence transmission tasks by more than 87.29%.
