Abstract

Edge computing leverages computing, storage, and networking resources at the edge to provide users with low latency and high responsiveness services. However, in smart city edge systems, challenges such as limited resources, diverse service requests, and edge server overload persist. To address these challenges, this paper investigated the problem of joint service deployment and task scheduling under resource constraints and proposed an adaptive collaborative service deployment and task scheduling scheme based on a hierarchical time frame. The method aimed to optimize system latency and load balancing while considering task priority. Firstly, this paper established a system cost model involving system latency and load balancing and introduced Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to enhance flexibility. Secondly, by considering service priority and access frequency, it developed a heuristic service deployment algorithm and proposed an improved Binary Equilibrium Optimizer (BiEO) task scheduling algorithm to optimize system costs. Finally, this paper conducted simulation experiments using the Shanghai Telecom dataset. The results show that the proposed method reduces the average weighted response time (AWRT) by more than 12.35% and improves load balancing by more than 14.47% compared with other methods. This approach achieves lower latency while ensuring a balanced load on edge servers.
