Local feature description algorithm of point cloud based on signature of regional centers

Abstract

Aiming at the problems that the local feature descriptions of point clouds have poor robustness to noise, point density changes and other factors, this paper proposed a new algorithm of point cloud local feature description based on the signature of regional centers. Taking the query points as the center, it constructed a spherical bounding box and evenly divided it into five main regions along the radial direction. Then along the different azimuth angles and elevation angles, it divided the main regions into several sub-regions with gradually increasing volume along the radial direction. By fusing the different sub-regions local features encoded by vertex coordinates, number of vertices, and center values, it generated the signature of regional centers descriptor. Taking Stanford dataset set as the verification object, a comparative analysis of this algorithm and classical descriptors reveals that this algorithm has better performance.
