Multi-objective optimal car-following model with lateral and longitudinal control

Abstract

Due to the large fluctuations and poor stability of the vehicle in the congested environment, it is difficult to track the vehicle in front of it in time. This paper developed a multi-objective optimal car following algorithm. The algorithm used a vehicle lateral and longitudinal dynamic model and deep reinforcement learning to establish a car-following model. Then, according to the vehicle distance difference, speed difference, lateral deviation, and relative yaw angle, the deep deterministic strategy gradient algorithm obtained the acceleration and steering angle of the following vehicle. Therefore, the algorithm could control the following car more smoothly and safely. After testing and verificating with the NGSIM driving data set, the results show that this method can effectively improve the stability, comfort, and safety of car following. It can promote traffic safety and improve road capacity.
