Closed-loop-based boundary node detection in wireless sensor network

Abstract

Due to the possible coverage holes in wireless sensor network, the network cannot provide high-quality data, so it is necessary to detect boundary nodes to accurately find coverage holes for repair. Most of the existing research was done by using the coordinates of the sensor or a large amount of node information. The proposed algorithm took each node detect whether neighbor nodes could form a closed loop surrounding the detection node to judge whether the current node was a boundary node. The algorithm enabled the node to autonomously decide whether it was a boundary node based only on the information of the small neighborhood, making it suitable for networks with uneven node distribution. Simulation experiments verify the effectiveness of the algorithm in identifying accuracy and reducing communication traffic.
