Hybrid algorithm based on harmony search and teaching-learning-based optimization using dynamic selection strategies

Abstract

This paper presented a hybrid algorithm based on harmony search and teaching-learning-based optimization(HHSTL) for solving various types of optimization problems. In different evolution stages, HHSTL algorithm dynamically determined the proportion using the harmony search(HS) or teaching-learning-based optimization(TLBO) algorithm as the means of updating the next generation of population on basis of the population activity rate and population optimal individual renewal rate. In addition, it proposed a "self-study" strategy to improve the global optimization performance of the TLBO algorithm. It employed 16 various types of Benchmark functions to investigate the performance of HHSTL, and compared with seven algorithms by Wilcoxon rank sum tests. The experimental results indicate that HHSTL algorithm can solve more complex optimization problems because of its high solution precision and excellent stability.
